Benford's law describes the frequency distribution of leading digits in real-world data sets. Contrary to common expectations, numbers beginning with 1 often appear more frequently than those starting with 2, and so forth. The law uses base-10 logarithms to predict these frequencies, which generally decrease as digits rise from 1 to 9.
